Pappy Smith's Adventure Continues

Day 55 of my journey riding, Started out at 4:30 this morning. The weather was cool to start. Was only going to ride 35 miles but the Weather stayed cool and it was alot of down hill riding. So I did not stay in Williams and continued on another 20 miles to Ash Fork Arizona. Total 53 miles today . A couple pictures of the sunrise and a picture of a couple deer. Also info on RT 66 . The video was the toast to my brother Dale and Claire which we do every year. So I am not there but my prayers are. Today was a great day and looking to ride 27 miles tomorrow going to Seligman Arizona KOA. If all goes as planned should be in California on Thursday. Looking to be in Santa Monica around the 15 of July give a day or 2. Good night God Bless

Day 54 of my journey riding, The day started of overcast with a chance of rain. Had a few sprinkles along the way but  nothing else. 25 miles all uphill to Flagstaff. When I got into town stopped at Absolute  bike shop for a quick tune up. They took my bike in right then. Bought 2 new tubes for the journey. In and out in 15 minutes. Rode to the hotel for the night. Went thru my bags and sent home another 9lbs of stuff I have that I don't need. Getting ready for the desert ride. I will be in Williams Arizona Saturday and Sunday night. Staying at a KOA in Williams. The Dale Smith Memorial  Golf Outing is tomorrow and this will be the first year I will not be there. Day 54 of my journey riding, The day started of overcast with a chance of rain. Had a few sprinkles along the way but  nothing else. 25 miles all uphill to Flagstaff. Day 52 of my journey riding, I wanted to get an early start to beat the heat. I started out a little after 4 am. Rode down to the gas station to get some coffee and something to eat but they were closed. Turned on my head light and headed down the highway! Rode 20 miles till next gas station but it did not open for another 26 minutes so I waited. Got my coffee and a muffin and yogurt. Once the sun came up it got hot fast. Got done eating headed out again. I thought I would have to ride another 38 miles before there was a hotel but after riding a total of 38 miles there was a Hotel and Casino that I decided to stop for the night.. Today's ride was mostly uphill with a head wind then the heat. I will have a 27 mile ride tomorrow so on my way to the next stop I will be able to stop at the bike shop for a quick maintenance check before I get to the desert. Day 52 of my journey riding, Wanted to start a little earlier this morning got up at 4am packed my bike headed out the door and had a flat tire. Had to unpack everything off my bike look thru my bags to find the spare tube I patched. Have one more spare it is also patched. 5 flats so far. Couple nice pictures of the sunrise this morning. Couple old homesteads on my ride. Beat the heat today riding only 38 miles. The temp got to 99 here today. They say they heat index 105. Tomorrow looking to ride 56 miles many uphill to Flagstaff. Calling for 100° tomorrow.  Leaving by 5am hopefully stop every 20 miles to refill water. Today would of been my sister in laws Claires Birthday . My brother Dales Birthday would of been 3 days ago. These are the people I looked up to and respected. They are truly missed and loved! Good night God Bless

Day 51 of my journey riding, Started the day meeting these to young men walking from New Jersey to California.  Johnathan and Trevor pushing there belongings on carts. Wish I would of gotten a picture of them. They have been on the road 2yrs! Walking between 10-15 miles a day. They can not walk on the highway so they have to find alternate routes such as Train tracks dried up river beds. There journey is to spread the word of god! I wish them the best. They have a hard road to follow. The Temps got into the 90s by 10am. Had to ride on interstate 40 the whole day today. The wind also played a factor in my ride today. 10- 15 mph head wind from 9am on. No where to stop so had to ride 44 miles before I could replinish my water. Rode 48 miles today. Looking to ride 55 tomorrow. . Heading out an hour earlier 5am. Breakfast at Mcdonald tomorrow before I get on the road. Calling it an early night so I can get up at 4am. Good night God Bless

Day 50 of my journey riding,  Started out at 6:30am. Beautiful day to ride.  The heat came on quick today.  Another  state down and 1 more to conquer after Arizona. I am excited to complete my journey. I feel it within my grasp!  There is no doubt that I can do this! The way I gave it mapped out should be in California within 12 days. Maybe take a couple extra days somewhere not sure yet. Got to the hotel early. Trying to get in my miles before the heat.  Rode 48 miles today. Temp this afternoon 98°. Heading out in the morning to Holbrook Arizona. About a 47 mile ride. Been staying in Hotels do to the heat.  Glad to see the Cavs win! Cleveland needed it! Have a great night all!
